One way to answer why God requires faith is because He is our Heavenly Father. Our relationship to Him is similar to other relationships in the sense that it includes trust in the other person, time together, love, and respect. Because we cannot fully know another person, let alone an infinite God, all relationships require some degree of faith

Our text is the first phrase in Romans 12:12 — “Rejoice in hope!”. We could paraphrase it like this: “Let your joy be the joy that comes from hope!”. Or: “Bear the fruit of joy in the branch of hope!”. Or: “Be glad because you have hope!”. The text establishes a firm relationship between joy and hope!
Not to minimize faith and love, but it seems that hope is often more difficult to get our heads around. Faith and love we experience day by day. Hope waits. Hope calls for patience. Hope always looks ahead. Hope fixes the thoughts on the unseen. Hope, consequently, nourishes the heart by anticipating what Christ has promised in the gospel.
In their day, our spiritual ancestors lived with the hope of the coming Messiah. We will celebrate His arrival, and we will reflect on our further hopes with expectation as we await His Second Coming. My prayer for us is this: as we journey through the treasury of the Psalms, we will find faith, hope, and love within.
